Mount Vernon Library Commons Project FAQs
Q. When will the new Mount Vernon Library Commons open?
A. The Mount Vernon Library Commons is planned to open the end of 2023.
Q. What will happen to the current library?
A. The building will be used as office space for the City of Mount Vernon.
Q. What is the square footage of the new Library Commons?
A. The new MV Library Commons will be 28,000 sq. ft. That is compared to our current facility that is 12,000 sq. ft.
Q. What is the cost of the project?
A. The total cost is $53.3 million. We currently have raised $50 million between state and federal grants and private donations.
Q. Will there be a bond measure?
A. We feel confident the total funds will be raised and have no plans to ask residents to vote on a bond to increase taxes.
Q. What happens if you don't raise the final funds?
A. We have enough money to complete the construction of the facility. If no additional funds are raised, we would not be able to furnish the interior of the facility.
