Funding Plan
The City of Mount Vernon committed to the project with the intention of not increasing constituent taxes through a bond. With the cost of construction continuing to rise, the City Council voted to begin construction in the fall of 2022 with a $6 million funding gap.
By August 2023, they were under $1.7 million from their goal, with the projection to be fully funded by the end of 2023 without a bond measure. Costs and funding continued to be adjusted, but the city succeeded. The Mount Vernon Library Commons was completed without a bond, without local tax dollars.
