New Library Commons Benefits

The new Mount Vernon Library Commons will be a community center for education and enrichment in Skagit County. Our community has been instrumental in providing us with feedback on the enhancements and wishes for our new library. Below you will find an outline of what the new library commons will entail and how that will benefit you and our community.

Because food is the center of many gatherings, this space will provide a place to teach children, families, and adults the value of preparing whole foods and increasing our overall community health.

Improved Access to Current & Future Technology

Our research indicated the number one barrier to entering the job market, starting a new job, or starting a business was lack of technology skills. It was also cited as a top need for our community center users. This new space will have:
  • Public access computers
  • A flexible computer teaching space
  • New technology offerings
  • Software that is high value but hard to access (Adobe Creative Suite etc.)
  • A building design that allows for change at the rate of technology
